Collection: Ammolite
Ammolite is known for its vibrant, iridescent colors that can include red, green, blue, yellow, and violet. The play of color is due to the microstructure of the fossilized shell. Most commercial Ammolite comes from the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta, Canada. Smaller quantities can be found in the United States. Ammolite forms over millions of years as aragonite (the material in the ammonite shell) undergoes mineralization and fossilization. Ammolite is used primarily in jewelry, such as pendants, rings, earrings, and inlays. Its unique appearance and rarity make it highly sought after by collectors and jewelers. Ammolite is graded based on its color, brightness, and play of color. Higher grades exhibit more vivid colors and greater iridescence. Mohs hardness of 3.5-4. It should be handled with care to avoid scratching or damage.
