The rose cut refers to a specific way of cutting gemstones, characterized by a flat base and a faceted, domed top, resembling the petals of a rose, which gives it its name. The facets are typically triangular, and the gemstone has no pavilion (the bottom portion that dips beneath the girdle in traditional brilliant-cut gemstones).

This style of cutting was popular in the 16th to 18th centuries, especially for diamonds, and continues to be used today in antique and vintage-style jewelry.
